Obedience Was Fun Until It Cost Me
We love the idea of following Jesus when it feels like a lifestyle upgrade. When faith means answered prayers, inner peace, a supportive community, and blessings, we are eager to say, “Lord, I will go anywhere.” It is incredibly easy to be radically obedient when the road is paved and the sun is shining.
But biblical obedience is not an accessory to your lifestyle; it is an execution of your flesh.
Eventually, the road of obedience hits a wall of sacrifice. God will put His finger on the one relationship, the one addiction, the one ambition, or the one comfort you are desperately clinging to, and He will tell you to drop it. Suddenly, His commands are no longer inspiring quotes on a coffee mug; they are a knife cutting directly into your chest.
That is the exact moment you discover whether Jesus Christ is actually your King, or if He is just your consultant.
We want a Christianity that costs us absolutely nothing. We want the crown without the cross. But a faith that costs you nothing is worth exactly nothing. When obedience requires you to walk away from someone you love, to lose money, to endure public mockery, or to shatter your own carefully laid plans, the illusion of cheap grace dies.
If your obedience to God has never broken your heart, offended your pride, or cost you something you deeply valued, you are likely not following the Jesus of the Bible. True surrender is excruciating. But what you lose in the fire of obedience is nothing compared to the life He resurrects from your ashes. Do not turn back just because the price tag was finally revealed.
